You can gain some of the tabbed folders back by using a nifty program called Drop Drawers which you can find at http://www.sigsoftware.com/dropdrawers/

I'm not sure how long since the last update, but I usd to use it all of the time on my 20" iMac. It works pretty well and can do all sorts of neat organization right from the desktop.

Wow i never thought of it, but that trash thing is an awesome idea. Put a pref somehwere in the finder prefs that would let you choose to have the trash display either nothing like it does now, or the number of files/folders within, or the number of MB in the trash at all times like mail.app. That actually would be very useful!

The download comment thing seems like a missing feature with safari specifically, not the OS as a whole, no?

As far as tabs go, I never used tabs in any application because tabs cancel out Expose and I loooooove expose!
