While in the process of writing a tutorial on how to “crack” the Front Row 1.0.1 updater, it seems Andrew Escobar has beaten me to it with a slick patching utility. With it you can convince Front Row to run on any Mac, not just a brand new iMac! The original author of the hack commented near the bottom and included technical details if you’re interested to see what was changed.

How does your patch differ from the one on my site?
That was a speedy comment, there! My patch detailed both your Pacifist method, as well as editing the .dist file in the updater package to include “your” Mac hardware model. That was about as far as I had gotten until I saw the item in your feed. :-P
