I have a 5th gen ipod nano. I was listening to it my car today and then all of a sudden it stopped playing. When I got home I connected the ipod to my Itunes and it said "itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore ipod before it can be used with Itunes." I clicked ok, then restore, and after a few seconds of it trying to restore something pops up that says "The ipod "ipod" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (1437)". Any ideas what to do??? I have reset it tons of times. But the screen keeps going from the apple to Language menu and it won't let me go past the language menu. I have run the diagnostic test and restore it. I did plug it into itunes and it gave a Don Not Disconnect but I was able to sync songs but when thru it went back to the Language menu. How do I get past it? Need help with hp ipod 30gb. Smacking and dropping on carpet didn't work. Simply holding the center button and menu button made it shutoff then I turned it on again and voila it works again. Phew. Thanks susan

I wanted to restore the iPod to get it working again, but I didn't want to lose all of my songs and other data. I realised that when I plugged my iPod in and iTunes came up it ad automatically been unlocked! I don't know if it was just luck, but anyone with the same problem should try this before restoring their iPod and removing all data .
